ABSTRACT
Muna, Ahmad Chirzul, 2023, 551811216635 T “Analysis of Magnetic Contactor
Burning at the Starter Panel Provision Refrigeration Plant on MT.
Pelagos One”, Thesis of Technical Department,Diploma IV Program,

A magnetic contactor is an electrical device that operates on the principle of
electromagnetic induction in a copper coil or coil that is energized, creating a
magnetic field that closes the NO (Normally Open) auxiliary contact and opens the
NC (Normally Close) auxiliary contact. The magnetic contactor is a control on the
provision refrigeration plant auxiliary machinery, and it is known that there is a trip
on the control panel box, which causes the operation of the refrigeration compressor
to stop; after checking, there is damage to the electrical component, namely a
burning magnetic contactor. The goal of this research is to determine the causes of
magnetic contactor burning, the impact of magnetic contactor burning, and the
methods used to overcome the problem of burning magnetic contactors in MT.
Pelagos One.
The author employs a descriptive qualitative research method in the
preparation of this thesis, employing the SHELL approach (Software, Hardware,
Environment, and Liveware) to facilitate data analysis techniques. The author
collects data through observation, interviews, and documentation studies that are
carried out directly on the research objects in MT. Pelagos One. The magnetic
contactor was examined, and interviews with the Chief Engineer and Electrician
were conducted. The engine room provided documentation in the form of manual
books, magnetic contactor data sheets, photos of magnetic contactor problems,
maintenance records, and electrical component repairs.
According to the findings of this study, the factors that cause burning or
damage to the magnetic contactor are inaccuracy when checking and maintaining,
disturbances that occur include uneven moving contact mounts on the contactor and
contactors that have been eaten away by age due to use. As a result, the contactor
does not work optimally, there is an increase in current, and the contactor coil burns.
Periodic maintenance and repair of magnetic contactors and other electrical
components every 6 month period, including replacement with new contactor parts,
to prevent damage from spreading to other components.
