Batubara adalah salah satu muatan curah yang berbahaya, karena memiliki
karakteristik yang keras, mudah panas oleh lingkungan dan mudah mengeluarkan gas.
Batubara berasap terjadi ketika proses pemuatan di MV. Themistocles, atas dasar tersebut
penulis mengangkat rumusan masalah faktor-faktor apa yang menyebabkan mutan batubara
tersebut berasap, dampak yang terjadi ketika proses pemuatan batubara mengeluarkan asap,
serta penanggulangan ketika muatan batubara berasap ketika proses pemuatan.
Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, adalah metode penelitian kualitatif yang
menghasilkan data deskriptif berupa kata-kata dari pengamatan secara langsung oleh
penulis saat melaksanakan praktek darat. Dalam hal ini pengumpulkan data berupa
pendekatan terhadap obyek melalui observasi, wawancara, studi pustaka serta studi
dokumentasi secara langsung terhadap subyek/narasumber.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan selama penulis melaksanakan praktek
darat dan di atas kapal MV. Themistocles terkait masalah berasapnya batubara saat proses
pemuatan adalah faktor lingkungan yang tidak menentu, karakteristik fisik dan kimia
batubara yang mudah mengeluarkan gas dan memiliki banyak kandungan kimia di
dalamnya, pihak shipper yang kurang memperhitungkan dalam pengiriman cargo ke kapal
untuk dimuat. Dampak yang terjadi apabila itu terjadi adalah para pekerja di atas kapal baik
crew kapal dan stevedores kesehatan mereka akan terganggu secara tidak langsung. Dalam
hal ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa upaya penaggulangan muatan batubara yang berasap saat
proses bongkar muat dapat dilakukan dari sudut pandang muatan, dapat dilakukan dengan
colling down, dan penyiraman cairan kimia. Dari sudut pandang sumber daya manusianya,
shipper sebagai pemilik barang harus lebih cermat dan tepat dalam mengirimkan barang
yang bisa diterima oleh kapal dan dengan kualitas yang bagus. Karena suhu batubara
mempengaruhi kualitas batubara itu sendiri.

Coal is one of the dangerous bulk loads, because it has hard characteristics, is
easily heated by the environment and easy to release gas. Smoky coal occurs during
the loading process in MV. Themistocles, on this basis the authors raise the problem
formulation of what factors cause the coal mutant to smoke, the impact that occurs
when the coal loading process emits smoke, and countermeasures when the coal
loading smokers during the loading process.
The method used in this study, is a qualitative research method that produces
descriptive data in the form of words from direct observation by the author when
carrying out land practice. In this case the data collection in the form of an approach
to the object through observation, interviews, and study documentation directly on
the subject / resource person.
Based on the results of research and discussion during the authors carry out
practice on land and on the MV. Themistocles related to the problem of smoky coal
during the loading process are uncertain environmental factors, physical and
chemical characteristics of coal that are easy to emit gas and have a lot of chemical
content in it, the performance of ship crews that are less responsive to loading
problems, the shipper does not take into account the shipping of goods to ship to be
loaded. The impact that occurs when it happens is that workers on board both crew
and stevedores their health will be indirectly disrupted. In this case, it can be
concluded that the effort to overcome the loading of smoky coal during the loading
and unloading process can be done from the point of view of the load, can be done
by colling down, and watering the chemical liquid. From the point of view of its
human resources, the shipper as the owner of the goods must be more careful and
precise in sending goods that can be accepted by the ship and with good quality.
Because coal temperature affects the quality of the coal itself.
