The idle gear timing can be interpreted as a connecting gear to transfer the
crankshaft rotation to engine equipment that requires rotary power. The number of
gear and their arrangement depends on the engine model. The idle gear timing
consists of a driving gear that rotates with the crankshaft through an idler gear
intermediary .The purpose of this study was to know the factors that caused the
moved of the timing idle gear auxiliary engine, what the impact of the moved of
timing idle gear auxiliary engine, and what the efforts were made to prevent the
moved of timing idle gear auxiliary engine.
The method of data analysis used by researchers on these problems are
fishbone and fault tree analysis.Fishbone is used to analyze the factors that cause
problems.FTA is used to get factors that have top priority through problem
research.
Based on the analysis of the study, it can be concluded that the moves of
timing idle gear auxiliary engine is caused by the decrease of lubricating oil
pressure, dirty sea water around the ship, lack of crew awareness in the care of the
auxiliary engine. To overcome these factors , it can be done by doing maintenance
according to the maintenance plan schedule, cleaning up oil filters or sea chest oil,
and maintenance according to the manual book. so, it can operate according to the
standard.

Timing idle gear dapat diartikan sebagai gigi penghubung untuk
mentransfer putaran crankshaft ke perlengkapan engine yang membutuhkan
tenaga putar. Jumlah gigi dan susunannya bergantung pada model engine. Timing
idle gear terdiri dari gigi penggerak yang berputar bersama crankshaft melalui
perantara idler gear. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faktor
yang menyebabkan gesernya timing idle gear auxiliary engine, dampak apa saja
dari gesernya timing idle gear auxiliary engine, dan upaya yang di lakukan untuk
mencegah gesernya timing idle gear auxiliary engine.
Metode yang digunakan penulis adalah deskriptif dan kualitatif sedangkan
teknik analisis data adalah fishbone dan fault tree analysis. Fishbone digunakan
untuk menganalisa masalah dengan faktor-faktor kemungkinan penyebab untuk
menganalisa masalah. FTA digunakan untuk mendapatkan faktor yang memiliki
prioritas utama melalui penelitian permasalahan.
Berdasarkan analisa penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa gesernya timing
idle gear auxiliary engine disebabkan oleh turunya tekanan minyak lumas,
kotornya air laut di sekitar kapal, kurangnya kesadaran crew dalam perawatan
auxiliary engine. Untuk mengatasi faktor-faktor tersebut dapat di lakukan dengan
melakukan perawatan sesuai dengan jadwal maintenance plan, melakukan
pembersihan filter minyak lumas ataupun sea chest, dan perawatan sesuai manual
book, sehingga dapat beroperasi sesuai standar.
