Main Engine is the main component that has a very important role on board to support the operation of the ship so that the ship can sail activities well. Performance of main engine powered by multiple systems one of which is the fresh water cooling system. MV. Sinar Bali never experienced a problem with the cooling of main engine cooling water as high temperature. This is a descriptive qualitative research with data analysis technique fishbone analysis and fault tree analysis. In determining the problem factors use Fishbone Anaylis technique using for to know the cause-effect of the factors and Fault Tree Analysis technique using for to find solve of the problems. Result of research conducted on fresh water cooling system of main engine showed that the cause of the temperature rising is fresh water cooling cooler dirty, pipeline of the fresh water cooling system leaking, and cylinder jacket cooling clogged by rubber seal, so it was undertaken efforts to fix the problems. Efforts are made is by doing the Standart Operating Procedure (SOP) well, cleaning the cooler, maintenance of fresh water cooling pipelines and overhaul cylinder jacket cooling to remove rubber seal from cylinder jacket cooling.
