Tanker fleet is one of the marine transportation used for carrying fluids or crude
oil. It’s inevitable that carrying cargo using ship needs advance technology, due to that
requirement the vessel designed to fit with any kind of product. Ship’s construction created as
what it is like loading space arrangement, cargo pump, ventilation system, heater system, &
many more. Beside from the product characteristic, it needs seriously management. Serious
management needs capable and experienced seafarers within their job, so that, they should
follow the development. With the development of knowledge & technology, tanker vessel
get renewal means within execution of the ship’s operation it will be more complicated so
that reduce or even preventing from any loss on board.
This research use qualitative method with fishbone and fault tree analysis.
Qualitative method results on descriptive data, written or vocal from individuals or worker
that observed around.
But reality on the field it’s common to found cargo management errors, one of
them are how to load & unloading process properly, safe and intact as the rule says. The fine
process is when it done quickly, effectively, & safely. When executing the process, crew
must know the related cargoes specification, any risk & danger it may cause in process so we
can manage the cargo better. Don’t only depend on habit on the ship that may endanger lives,
ships, & environment. From research & analysis of problem we can conclude that deficiency
of load & unloading process caused by lack of ratings skill in cargo management matter &
lack of officer observation that responsible at load & unloading watch keeping task. And also
damage to load & unloading equipment triggered by lack of treatment towards related
equipment & limited spare parts.
