The case of ship accident occurring in Banten waters by Harbour Master and
Port Authority (KSOP) Office 1st Class of Banten having authority and
responsibility for all shipping flow activity especially on shipping safety. The
purpose of this study are: 1) to determine the factors causing ship accidents in
Banten waters, 2) to find out the efforts made to improve shipping safety for ship
accidents in Banten waters
The method used by researchers in this study qualitative. This study is written
in a descriptive manner which contains descriptions from interviewees and
documentation. Data collection techniques used are primary data collection and
secondary data collection. The process of collecting data through the approach to
the object under study using observation, interview, and literature study.The
researchers also use direct and indirect observation.
The results of this study are: 1) factors of human negligence on the
operation of the ship by the crew due to negligence of shipping safety,2) natural
factors or bad weather that occur strong winds and sea wave square,3) other
factors namely lack of inspection of sea transport evidenced by the vessel
certificate which needs to be checked and updated, the maintenance of parts on
the ship that are less than optimal. Efforts made in improving shipping safety are
1) taking strategic steps from both technical and non-technical aspects, namely
checking the expertise of the crew, 2) viewing weather information by BMKG, 3)
carrying out maintenance and inspection on board to be safe in operation. Based
on the results of the study obtained conclusions and suggestions, namely the
factors that cause ship accidents are human negligence factors, natural factors
and other factors, efforts made to improve shipping safety is to monitor the
expertise of the crew, provide information about the weather, carry out checks on
ship feasibility. Suggestions were addressed to the Harbour Master and Port
Authority (KSOP) Office 1st Class of Banten and Shipping Company so as to
better monitor ship feasibility and crew expertise.
