Main engine on board, both diesel engines 4-stroke and 2-stroke air
used to start the engine, the air is produced from the air compressor and
accommodated in the air reservoir. Air pressure to start this work starts from the
pressure of 25-30 bar. Inhibition of starting air on diesel main engine caused the
failure of the starting air supply on diesel main engine. The impact resulting from
failure of the starting air supply on diesel main engine. This study aims to
determine the factors causing the failure of the air supply pedestrian (starting
water) and the efforts made to overcome the failure of the starting air supply on
the main engine diesel with SHEL method in MT. Serang Jaya.
The method used is descriptive qualitative and to identify the problem
using the SHEL methods. Descriptive qualitative methods are used to describe the
problems that occur with the use of data collection methods such as observation,
interviews, documentation, and literature study. SHEL methods used to identify
the problems that arise in a system and optimize it with four components:
software, hardware, environment, liveware..
The research result are the factors that led to the failure of the starting
air on diesel main engine is the lack of air in the air reservoir and starting air
valve that is not working/jammed. The impact caused the failure of the starting air
on diesel main engine is a disruption of the smooth operation of cruise ships, and
can be detrimental to the parties that are in it including the engine crew and the
company. Efforts are being made to overcome the failure of starting air on the
main engine diesel is to perform maintenance and repairs to the installation of the
starting air system damage, such as the suction valve and press on compressors,
air reservoir and safety valves and seating starting air valve. Where the damage
is caused by the buildup of carbon and corrosion and thereby hinder the work
process..
