Handling cargo operation is one of the most important part of the ships
operation, that involving the ship and the port authority. In the real case loading
and discharging cargoes at tanker vessel are often using simultaneous system, this
system is more complicated than loading and discharging a single cargo. Failing
to make an appropriate stowage plan until the high temperature of the cargo might
led to broken stowage and cargo loss. This research has purpose to determine the
problems that might occur while discharging or loading two grade cargoes, and to
understand why cargoes losses are often happen while discharging or loading two
grade cargoes at MT. Maiden Energy.
The research method that the researcher uses is descriptive qualitative which
is a method that describes the facts that occur on the ship with data collection
techniques based on observations of field researchers, interviews conducted by
researchers with the captain and chief officer and literature study. Analysis of
data that researchers do is to collect data which then the data is presented to be
drawn conclusions.
The result of this research shows that the factors that influence the cargo
handling of two grades cargo on the MT. Maiden Energy are the stowage plan that
not suited with the characteristic of the vessel, the stability swing that change so
fast while loading or discharging using simultaneous system, and the risk of
contaminate cargo. Handling two grades of cargo are often facing cargo loss is
happened because the high temperature of one of the cargo that involve the
counting factor of the cargo itself and the other cargo.
