Central fresh water cooler is principal machinery consist of pipes where fresh waters which are used to cool down machineries on board is being cooled. Providing fresh waters with right temperature according machineries needing are crucial, in which it can boost the machineries operational quality, so that the machineries performance is as expected. Thus, the outcome from the central cooler will optimize the cooling system. Temperature diffence from the needed temperature will decrease the cooling performance.
Method which is used in this thesis are qualitative descriptive method. Additionally, the writer used SWOT method as data anaysis technique to investigate problems which are occur at the central cooler, namely the factors causing the decreased performance of the central cooler and efforts to be taken to overcome those factors. Then, those factors are systematically analyzed by considering the strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats obtained from the environment on board in order to formulate the strategies to be taken.
As the research that had been done by the writer on MV. San Pedro Bridge from 03rd February 2016 until 07th December 2016, we can conclude that the decreased of the central cooler performance is caused by more load at sea water pump because sea water temperature was too low. Furthermore, environment temperature was low, causing temperature stress at ship’s elements and leading to gasket or even pipe leakage. To overcome these problems, manual adjustment at sea water system and upgrading gasket and always ready for the leaks can be done to prevent the worst scenario from happening.
