Cargo pump is a type of pump which is principally used to transfer the oil and chemical product from one tanker to another vessel or tank on land. On board, there are 10 cargo pumps installed inside each parallel load tank with one source of propulsion coming from Hydraulic Power Package located at Forecastle. One of the most important parts in cargo pump is cargo seal and oil seal which serves to block the fluid or limit the hydraulic oil with a charge that certainly should not happen damage to the part because it will interfere with the work of the pump cargo itself. In the operation of the cargo pump is of course not separated from the process of tank cleaning, cargo heating, hydraulic power package, purging cargo pump, and other supporting systems. The method used in this research is the method of Strength Weaknesses Opportunities Threats (SWOT), which is a form of situation analysis by identifying various factors systematically to the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities , and threats from the environment to formulate the strategy to be taken. Data collection techniques are done through observation, documentation and literature study directly on subjects related to cargo pumps. The results obtained from this study that the decrease of the work of the cargo pump in the process of discharging the liquid chemical charge is due to damage to the cargo seal and oil seal. While the cause of damage to the seal is caused by the temperature steam boiler when the tank cleaning is very high and occur sustainably every tank cleaning so damaging the strength of the seal itself to block the liquid. To overcome the above problems in order to optimize the pump performance, we need to replace the damaged seals and adjust the temperature used for the cleaning tanks by adjusting the size of the valve steam to deck from the boiler.
