The purpose of this study was to determine the effect on flushing air intercooler work on the main engine with applications Shel theory in MT. Kasim. The role of the intercooler against air cooling rinse the main engine is very important effect, if the work of the intercooler is not optimal impact on changes in air temperature rinse or rising temperatures rinse, using shel to find what factors are causing not optimal work intercooler and effort intercooler work is being done to be optimal.
Shel method used to determine the factors that may affect the occurrence of interruption of work on the intercooler, the filter is dirty turbocharged, intercooler dirty air side and the side fresh water pipes are clogged. But during the cruise common problems that lead to the intercooler intercooler can not function optimally, and therefore can not be used to generate maximum scaviging air. So in the combustion process are disrupted by the main engine of it.
Here the authors tried to describe the effect that the result is not optimal intercooler and how to overcome them. The purpose of writing is to gain knowledge of the intercooler in order to work optimally, so as to produce a rinse air quality and ready to ship main engine. And this thesis is expected to be useful for the machinist to guide maintain, operate, and improve intercooler if damage occurs.
