Many problems arise in the world of shipping and get the main attention is the smoothness and safety of the shipping way. In the voyage at the Port of Tanjung Emas, Semarang, the presence of pilot is very important. It aims to maintain and improve the safety and smoothness in the plot of the port of Tanjung Emas Harbor Semarang. After doing the observation the researcher wanted to know how to do pilot in doing its job as which in the process to maintain and improve the smoothness and safety of the shipping channel and the procedure performed from beginning to end. Thus, the authors want to examine the "Role of Pilot In Improving Safety and Smooth Ship in the Port of Tanjung Emas Semarang". In this study, the authors used descriptive qualitative method. Qualitative method is a research procedure that produces descriptive data using facts and events by way of observation, interview directly to the subject who knows this incident. Based on the discussion that has been put forward in the previous chapters. The results of research that has been obtained is the guidance and guiding services is one important element in the safety and smoothness of the shipping path of a port. Pilot Tanjung Emas Semarang in performing its duty has been run well and according to procedure, such as role to give instruction to Officer On Watch which then will be ordered by ship captain and can be tethered safely and smoothly.
