The Republic of Indonesia is an archipelago of thousands of islands. It is a unity that can not be separated. With such circumstances, to connect one island with another island needed sea transport as a means of transportation. In this case the marine transport sector plays a very important and decisive in order to support the smooth transportation, so that national development goals can be achieved efficiently and effectively. Business PT.Varia Usaha Lintas Segara Gresik is one of the shipping agents who handle ships out in the port of Gresik, operational staff is very important from the ship to come to the ship loading or unloading and the ship left port. Operational staff was also very influential in the development and progress of a company. In this research method used is a qualitative research method that regulates a research method by using several aspects such as data collection, interviews, observation and literature study. In this case the authors make direct observations to the port and related agencies that are directly related to the activities of operational staff in carrying out their duties. Exposure method using Urgency, Seriousness, Growth (USG). From the research results can be known about the tasks of operational staff, the obstacles faced by the operational staff on the operational staff performance of PT.Varia Usaha Lintas Segara Gresik is the lack of operational staff and the operational staff who work not in accordance with the basic tasks, the lack of operational vehicle fleet transportation, Ability of some operational staff in english speaking and computer operate. Efforts are made to overcome obstacles by carrying out employee recruitment and coordinating with top management, hiring and adding operational vehicles, conducting training education to improve skills.
