Aljarallah, 2017, NIT : 50134961.T, “Identification of directional valve damage to the hydraulic circuit steering gear on the MV. Permata Caroline”, Thesis Technique Studies Program, Program Diploma IV, Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Semarang, Advisor I: Drs. Darjono, M.Mar.E, Advisor II: Tony Santiko, S.ST.,M.Si
Steering Gear is the auxiliary aircraft used to make the ship can be controlled in the desired direction. Although the principle works at a glance looks simple, but to be able to control the rudder blades from a considerable distance safely, comfortably, accurately required a hydraulic system transmission system is quite complicated. The problem of the directional valve that makes the motion of the ship to be late approximately 2-5 seconds, can endanger the safety of the trip, therefore done the action is to make repairs as soon as possible and perform maintenance and try steering gear movement with proper operation according to instruction manual book. It is known that the hydraulic oil flow is controlled by the directional valve, to channel the oil to the hydraulic cylinder and move the plunger that pushes the steering stalk. From there we realize how important directional valve.
Given the importance of the steering gear which is a vital component of the ship, the existence of the auxiliary aircraft must be well maintained. In this case the author uses the Urgency Seriously Growth method, where this method is to identify the damage to a machine with a problem tree, while the ultrasound goal is to review a problem based on the gravity of the problem, the urgency of the problem and the growth of the problem.
By following the procedure, it is expected that the steering gear operational system can maximize the movement, so that the maneuvering and voyage activities of the vessel can run smoothly without being impeded by the disruption resulting in material and non material damage caused by the disruption of ship operations. At the end of the thesis the authors present conclusions and suggestions.
Key Word: Steering Gear, directional valve, USG.
