Since the 2012 edition of the Guidelines for the implementation of MARPOL Annex V (resolution MEPC,219(63)), the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted the following amendments to MARPOL Annex V on Regulations for the prevention of pollution by garbage from ships :
- 2012 amendments (resolution MEPC.216(63)) on regional arrangements for port reception facilities: entered into force on 1 August 2013;
- 2014 amendments (resolution MEPC. 246(66)) on the IMO Instruments Implementation Code (III Code): entered into force on 1 January 2016;
- 2015 amendments (resolution MEPC.265(68)) on the International Code for Ships Operating in Polar Waters (Polar Code): entered into forc on 1 January 2017; and
- 2016 amendments (resolution MEPC.277(70)) on substances that are harmfull to the marine environment (HME) and Form of Garbage Record Book, which will enter into force on 1 March 2018.
